Another Weekend

Well, another crazy long week at work.......long long days and tired!

Last weekend was kinda quiet. Went to the pool party at Scottie & Stephens. It was nice to float around in the water, chat with friends and neighbors, and escape the heat.

Tom and I went to dinner Saturday night. The we saw Tom Cruise's new movie, War of the Worlds. It was cool.

I haven't done much all week except work and sleep. The poor dogs got plenty of sleep this week. There are not enough hours in the day to get everything done.

The Weekend!

Well, it was a long, busy week at work. I worked a lot, and didn't get my full 8 hours of sleep each night..........so, I'm tired, kinda crabby, and way emotional.......what a way to start the weekend!

Not a lot going on this weekend, other than a Pool Party at Scottie & Stephen's house this afternoon. I need to go over to my rental house in Richardson to do some work this weekend. I need to get it leased!

I need to get my hair cut, and both cars washed.......plus a million other little errands. Okay, John....rest!

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Tom and I went to see Tim Burton's updated version of the old classic. I was singing the Oompa Loompa song before we got to the theater, over and over again. The Oompas had new songs in the new movie. It was cute, I enjoyed it.........and Johnny Depp seemed like he was channeling a lot of Michael Jackson for his character, Willy Wonka.

Red, White & Tuna - Reviewed

This was an awesome show. I laughed and laughed, until I cried. No wonder these guys have been doing these shows for 23 years! Went with a group of 10 friends, good time had by all!

I Will Never Wash My Right Hand Again!

I saw my favorite of all time, Stevie Nicks, last night at Nokia Theater in Grand Prairie. The show was awesome, her voice was excellent, excellent seats....4th row, right in front of the backup singers (Sharona and the new girl).....overall, a great experience.

The highlight was when I jumped up right next to the stage when the intro for "Stand Back" started. This is the queue for us die hard fans to run forward to have a chance at a little "one on one" with the rock godess! When my turn came.....I told her that "I loved your work", she said "thank you", and held my right hand in both of her hands and looked me straight in the eyes!

If you know me..........I was on CLOUD 9, SEVENTH HEAVEN, and as Tom said "I knew he would have one of of his huge, goofy grins on his face". All were true!!!

Vanessa Carlton was good too!

Review: Stevie Nicks doesn't let them down

GRAND PRAIRIE – F. Scott Fitzgerald may have maintained that there were no second acts in American lives, but that was a regional declaration, made about a bazillion years ago.

In the now-borderless world of pop culture, it seems that in order to achieve true iconic status, three acts must be played out: early brilliance, static self-parody, and redemptive competence.

Just ask Elvis (Presley or Costello, it doesn't really matter) or Elton John. Sunday night at Nokia Theatre, Stevie Nicks made her claim on the same kind of reclamation, and 4,400 fans found it a demand that was hard to deny.

Face it. She minted a brand new kind of rock icon: the original witchy woman/Celtic rock-mama/leprechaun's bride that would go on to launch a thousand imitators.

And even though at times in her career she's seemed content to let the memory of that inventiveness carry her, on Sunday she used memory not as a crutch but as a crowbar .

A crackerjack band – two drummers, two keyboards, two backing vocalists plus the standard guitar/guitar/bass array – was led by Waddy Wachtel, one of the brightest sidemen from the '70s singer/songwriter era.

The most impressive aspect of the evening was how Ms. Nicks liberated songs she'd written from the Fleetwood Mac classic rock ghetto: an acoustic introduction to "Rhiannon," an unabashedly electric kickoff to "Gold Dust Woman" – all were definitely part of the past but bore a uniquely new stamp.

The same went for well-remembered solo efforts like 1983's "Stand Back," whose crunchy beginning both fed into and rebuked the tune's original, almost disco-smooth production.

Other songs, like "Love Changes" from her 2001 solo album Trouble in Shangri-La, fared almost as well, given their lack of classic-rock cachet.

Ms. Nicks took advantage of some rather obviously placed keyboard and drum solos to change costumes. No one minded; in fact, when she twirled around a time or two, the applause was deafening.

Opening act Vanessa Carlton was appealingly open and honest at her piano. She chattily walked the crowd through numbers like "White Houses" (an uncensored version) and her earlier hit, "Ordinary Day."

Mr. Fitzgerald's pessimism and Ms. Nicks' determination notwithstanding, Ms. Carlton made a pretty good case for the fact that sometimes, one act can be enough.

Red, White & Tuna

A group of us are going to see Red, White & Tuna this evening at the Eisemman Center in Richardson. Should be lots of fun. I have seen these shows on tape (my mom loved them and had all the tapes), but never live.

Way cool! www.nin.com

Must go!

GAS PRICES - UGH!

Well, I finally paid over $40 for a tank of gas this week. I've been hovering in the mid to upper $30's for a tank, but now.....over $40. Yuk!

Maybe it's time to re-think this Cadillac thing.....and maybe get a Honda Hybrid or a Toyota Prius. I drive entirely too much (usually fill up three times a week in one car, and once a week in the other).

Flat Tire

Nothing makes me nuttier than car problems. I drove out of the garage this morning, and my car was making strange noises. I pulled over, and one of my back tires was flat.

Then I couldn't find my portable air compressor to re-inflate, so I turned around, went home, and took the other car. Tom has the portable air compressor, I realized later.

I guess I will deal with this on Saturday :(
